Infant Eye Care
Every day we hear the question from a concerned parent: "At what age should my child have his/her first eye exam?" In general, children should have their first eye exams at six months of age. If their eyes are developing normally, another exam isn't needed until age three. We also recommend asking your pediatrician or family doctor for their opinion. They are aware of any relative family history or specific condition that may set your child apart in his or her needs. In addition, use your common sense: you as a parent know your child better than anyone else! If you have any concerns--big or small--we recommend scheduling an exam for your child. At best, we can assure you that your child's eyes are completely healthy, and if there is a problem, it is always best to catch it at an early age. Please see the child-related articles such as "Your Infant's Visual Development" and "Children's Eye Exams" under the Articles link for more information. |
