Child Eye Care
Many times the first experience a child has with an eye exam is at a school screening. The accuracy of the screenings vary depending on many factors that may be difficult to control in a school setting (i.e., distractions, noise, equipment quality,) and we strongly recommend following up at a private office if you have any questions about your child's vision or perception in the classroom. One in four children has a visual deficit that interferes with the learning process. A visual deficit can be something other than not seeing 20/20. A visual acuity of 20/20 is a measure of sharpness of sight. It gives no information as to how much effort is needed to see clearly and to use both eyes together, nor does it tell how much meaning is being obtained from the visual input. Eighty percent of what a child learns in the classroom is interpreted through their vision! If any of the visual skills are deficient, a child cannot learn up to his or her full potential. Dr Millikan is happy to answer any questions you have about your child's eyes. It may be helpful to write down the questions you have as you think of them and bring the list to your child's appointment. We look forward to seeing you! |
